5 ways to improve your fitness levels when walking

  • Use a weighted belt or wrist bands.


  • Lengthen your stride smoothly and slowly, but make sure it’s comfortable.

  • Think about your posture and correct it and don’t lean from your waist or you’ll put undue stress on your back.

  • Always keep your arms swinging. The forwards swing should end with your fists at about shoulder height.

  • Stop halfway and do stretches.

  • Ski poles will help burn 25% more calories.
