“Fitness for me is a basic necessity. It transcends beyond looking like a diva off the international ramp for me. Although my profession demands that an actress should be well maintained to complement the clothes she wears in order to relate to a wider audience, I have never felt the need to translate fitness onto the big screen and scream out aloud ‘look at me I’m fit and sexy’. My fitness mantra is about feeling good from inside more than looking good outside. My fitness aim is to stay healthy and active even as age catches up on me as I always say, ‘Amrita represents the 18 till I die attitude’.

Exercise

Exercise does not have to be time-consuming to be effective. I engage in a 30-minute planned daily exercise regime either at the gym or at home with my personal trainer. I alternate cardio and aerobic exercises, which help me burn calories and strength training exercise and weight lifting, which dissolve excess fats. Ones confidence level increases when ones body and mind are fit and active. I have always been health conscious in spite of many being advised by fitness gurus that I need not exercise since I have been blessed with a perfectly sculpted figure.

Diet

Eating healthy and nutritious food goes a long way in promoting good health. My caloric intake does not exceed the amount I normally burn. This is because any excess would then be converted and stored energy into fats, which is not good for my health and figure. I have reduced fat intake in my diet and practice portion control. I eat high fibre and fresh foods, and avoid large meals. I eat slowly and on time. I don’t overeat.

I consume four meals a day. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for me. I am a vegetarian and my intake always consists of lots of fluids and a vegetable mixed with fruit palette. I prefer home cooked food even when I am shooting. My lunch, dinner and evening snack is generally light and always possess the required proteins and vitamins. I have a sweet tooth and once in a while I enjoy desserts.

Mind

Being active and finding time to exercise regularly at any age wards off diseases and boosts immune system so I ensure I find time to exercise, which also is a way to relax. I enjoy reading autobiographies, going trekking, and unwinding at spa salons and sometimes meditating.

I am a private person so one would rarely find me catching up with friends and hanging around lounges/coffee shops. My stress buster is dance, which I simply enjoy which in turn has a therapeutic effect on my thought process.

Spirit

Spirituality and religion are intertwined – where one begins another ends. At the end of the day it is important that I fulfill my domestic obligations and yet introspect about life after death and the good deeds that will credit in my heavenly bank balance. Unconditional prayers have given me an undying force to anticipate a better tomorrow. I look upon God, as my trustworthy friend, my lifetime companion, my supportive family; my work .He transcends the unreal into real, the negative into positive, the unachievable into achievable. My pillar of strength is my God and our relationship is exclusive and beautiful.”
