Water has been used to cure diseases since the mid 1800's. Earlier, known as water cure now the term is synonmous with hydropathy. Water cure helps in equalization of body heat and the temporary increase of vitality. Keeping in mind the importance, lets have a look at a few water cures which can help counter body aches, tooth aches, circulation problems and so on.

METHODS
Cold Spinal bath

  • Works as an excellent tonic for the nervous system
  • Improves blood circulation
  • It is the easiest method to relieve tension

Application: The best way to take it is lying down in a tub with the feet outside. It must be finished with a head bath. The total duration of this bath is 15-45 minutes.


Hip bath

  • It helps in removing heat from the abdominal area
  • Has a soothing effect on the digestive organs

Application: This has to be taken sitting in a bath tub leaning against the wall in moderately cold water. A towel can be used to massage the abdominal area from one side to another.


Abdominal wet pack 

  • Removes congestion in the abdominal area
  • Soothes the nerves and alleviates pain
  • Brings out the heat which is latent in any part of the body
  • Helps in cases of digestive disorders like chronic constipation and loose motions

Application: A broad bandage of soft and thick wet cloth is to be wrapped around the abdomen. It can also be covered with a coarse woolen wrapper so that the pack may get warm with the internal heat. The bandage may be removed within 30 -45 minutes.

Other water cures

  • Head pack
    Apply a wet pack on the forehead to cool the brain. One can even tie a bandage around the head to keep the pack in place. The head pacl helps in curing headaches.
  • Wet cloth for the eyes
    For sore eyes, grated cucumber can be placed over a thin piece of clean wet cloth over the eyes. It gives a soothing and relaxing effect.
  • Cold water for relieving body pain
    In case of a body ache, one should pour some cold water slowly over a cloth or bandage applied on any part of the body. This maybe a little painful initially but should be continued till relief is attained.
  • Gargling
    Cold water should be taken in the mouth and gargled for around 2 minutes till it becomes warm. This is helpful in the case of toothaches, sore mouth, swollen gums or any kind of inflammation in the mouth.
  • Cooling or stimulating wet bandages
    These bandages should be applied on the affected area in cases of burns, sprains and wounds.
