Acoustic medicine or music therapy, is the field of medicine that uses sound frequencies to cure diseases. It is based on the therapeutic transference of specific predetermined sound frequencies to the cell structure of the body. This process is achieved by transposing the frequencies on a carrier wave and then transferring them to the body through auditory perception and conduction.

Acoustic medicine affects the body on physical and psychical levels and works entirely through the processes of bioresonance and entrainment.

The effects of music on human physiology:

  • Reduction of anxiety, heart rate and respiratory rate
  • Lowering of blood pressure and cardiac complications
  • Increasing immunity levels
  • Increasing the pain threshold
  • Immense benefits in neurological and degenerative disorders by increasing blood flow and stimulating regeneration

The applications of music can be in every sphere of medicine. Evidence-based research across the world has shown that music therapy is therapeutic in cases of anxiety / depression, insomnia, menopause, hypertension, diabetes, asthma, paralysis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), migraine, hyperacidity, dementia / Alzheimer’s disease, infertility, Parkinson’s disease, psoriasis, attention deficit disorders (ADD), bed wetting, mental retardation, autism / dyslexia.

A 60-year-old man came with history of Parkinson’s disease since 14 years. He was on regular medication but in spite of that, he had complaints of daily bouts of exercise rigidity and immobilisation lasting for a couple of hours. He was treated with specific sound frequencies for 6 weeks. His session included 20-30 minutes of listening to specific patterned music. He has been event-free ever since.

A 14-year-old child was diagnosed with dyslexia since the age of 6 years. He was undergoing specific therapies from trained special educators for the same but his academic performance was progressively deteriorating. He was subjected to passive music therapy, listening to specific music for 20-30 minutes daily and advised on active music therapy. He started playing the drums also, and his academic progress has been remarkable. He also had a tremendous improvement in his writing skills from the 3rd day of music therapy itself.

A 48-year-old woman who was in the menopausal age, came with a history panic attacks, anxiety spells and bouts of depression on and off since 5 years. She had been on treatment but would slip into the spells recurrently. She was subjected to acoustic frequencies for 3 months and has recovered remarkable and does not suffer from any of her previous complaints anymore. She is episode-free for the last 2 years.
