An afternoon of rejuvenation

Kaya’s new aqua radiance skincare spa treatment tempted me to try it out, mainly because the facial treatment is done with just water and air and not with the usual prodding and pushing of acne and pimples at regular parlours that make you wonder if your face is a gold mine.

As I entered the Clinic, I was a bit unnerved thinking about whether this treatment was actually done with water and air; it seemed all too fantastical. However, my doubts were put to rest as I was taken in to meet the doctor. The dermatologist explained how the new treatment is customised to suit each skin type, the steps involved in the process of treatment and what to expect from it. The package involves a blackhead removal massage, superficial exfoliation facial, the infusion of vitamins (customised to one’s skin type’ for eg., Vitamin C is used for ageing skin) and finally a mask which is again customised to your sin type depending on whether you have oily / sensitive / dry skin.

My room was soon ready and the trained practitioner who was going to give me the aqua radiance treatment was introduced. She was well prepared with even a contact lens case for my lenses as I had forgotten mine and the treatment required me without lenses. With my hair pushed back, my clothes neatly covered, the cleansing with a wet tissue began. With that out of the way, the practitioner once again explained the process of treatment to me, demonstrating what the equipment would do. After testing the pressure of squirting of saline water on my hand with the jet spray, I was ready for the same on my face.

With the saline cleansing out of the way, it was then time for the exfoliation. Now this has the water pressure increasing a bit, which got me a little nervous – high pressure on my face doesn’t excite me. But the soft-spoken practitioner who told me to ‘raise my hand’ if the pressure was too much, put my worries to rest. With the word of confidence, I was ready for this next step. The sensation of this process wasn’t too pleasant but it is definitely a whole lot better and healthier than having your pimples and blackheads squeezed, prodded and yanked out!

Next came the dry airing. As the name of the treatment goes, by now your face is wet; so there’s need for a bit of airing. Here’s where air is sprayed on your face in neat systematic patterns along the same path the exfoliation process is done. This really helps you relax and your face just feels a whole lot cleaner.

But we’re not finished yet. Now is the time for the main part of this spa treatment – the infusion of vitamins that your face needs. The doctor tells the practitioner what the particular skin type requires at the start of the session. Once the infusion is done, your face is then ready for the mask.

An aloe vera based mask is neatly applied so that the vitamins set in. You’re then left for some quiet peaceful time, feeling like you’ve just taken a facial. I took a 10-15 minute nap here, which was very refreshing.

With my face cleaned and completely refreshed, I was ready to face the day ahead. The radiance was noticed and I was ‘glowing’ happy. The great part about this treatment is that you can go to work directly after without any redness on your face quite unlike a regular facial. So take a walk down to Kaya during your next lunch break and get a facial makeover the healthy way. It only takes an hour and about Rs 2000.
