Obesity is not just a cosmetic problem and the sooner people realise it, the better off they will be. Remember the saying, ‘larger the waist line, shorter the life line.’ Obesity, in fact, is the mother of all health problems -- coronary heart disease, hypertension, cerebral-vascular accidents, diabetes, gastric problems, galls stones, sleep apnea, spondylosis, arthritis, and others. Healthy food habits and daily exercise, is therefore a must for preventing obesity. Exercise daily for at least an hour and drink adequate amount of water – upto 10 glasses, daily.
Exercise should be regular and consistent and should increase your pulse rate and the depth of your breathing. Keep your age in mind and work out upto 70 or 80 per cent of your maximum heart rate. As you exercise, your fat burns, and the muscles and bones become stronger. Your heart muscles get strengthened with daily exercise. Through perspiration, water-soluble toxins get eliminated.
Eliminate excess weight with yoga and nature cures. Try the following routine:
Perform surya namaskaras, pranayams (kapaalbhaati, bhastrika) and kriyas (neti and kunjal) under a yoga teacher. Take lemon juice with honey and citrus fruits. The citric acid in the fruits helps in breaking down fat, so have this regularly. Consult a naturopath and under his guidance, take an enema while fasting on fruits, juices and soups. As you fast, the body burns stored fats to release energy required for functioning of the body’s cells. Contrary to general belief, you do not feel weak during fasting, but instead feel energetic and light. This is due to breaking down of fat which has high calorific value -- each fat gram gives 9 calories when compared to a gram of carbohydrate that releases 4 calories per gram.
Never do low calorie dieting – that will only make your metabolism slow and decrease the rate of weight reduction as well. The best way to lose weight and to keep the metabolism high, is by practising yogasanas, taking steam and sauna baths, hot immersion baths and oil massages. Nature cure and yoga, are in fact, the safest methods to lose weight.
