Mahim resident, Anita Palak’s case was similar – being a single mother and having an ailing parent to support. Her father had passed away a year back and she was unable to let go of him, emotionally. Her life was tumultuous, to put it mildly. Again, on a friend’s advice, she started to de-clutter big time. Blindly, wildly and unemotionally. No doubt it was tough, but she managed it. Within a few weeks, her life started to change – her estranged husband contacted her; they got together and thought of rethinking their separation. They finally decided to remarry and today, she is happily settled with her ‘ex’ husband.

Vaastu, Feng Shui, space management, de-cluttering… we get to hear all kinds of nomenclatures and concepts, thrown at us in the name of managing our home energy. All of them, of course, are very valid with their own sets of principles. Those who have followed them have reported remarkable improvement in their living conditions. Have you, however, wondered how they really work?
 
All these concepts work on the principle of aligning energy flows in the house. They take into account directions, magnetic fields, polarity, etc., to arrive at an optimal way of arranging our rooms.

Energy monitoring is an intuitive activity. Some houses are packed with stuff from time immemorial. Others are so neat that the host gets irritated, if you happen to dirty the flooring even a wee bit. Such behaviour and thought patterns impact the energy of the place. A house takes on the personality of its owner. Have you ever felt nice on entering some houses and/or claustrophobic on entering others? Have you wondered why?

Our existence is always dimensional, which means that the way we keep our body, we will keep our house the same way. The way we keep our house, we will keep our neighbourhood and the way we keep our neighbourhood, we keep our state, city and country. Lastly, the way we keep our country, we keep the earth as a whole.

Have you noticed that on those days when you feel lethargic, you tend to let things lie around in the house, without even lifting a finger to put them in place? It is during these times that you feel your life is the pits and that your neighbourhood is the worst in the city and that your country is lousy. The reason is the same: energy operates uniformly across dimensions, across space.

The converse is also true. Have you felt ‘light’ on giving away old newspapers to the raddiwala, or when you declutter your house, or when you delete old mails from your email inbox? Strangely, on that day, you would inevitably find yourself in the best of spirit, loving everything around you. The reason is the same. You created space in one dimension and it had an impact on all the other dimensions.

The game is all about energy management. One of the easiest techniques for spotting energy movements, is observation. Try this:

• Notice how a child moves about in your house. A child is energy-intuitive. It will follow the energy path of the house.
• Observe what ‘obstructs’ a person’s energy in your house. It could be a chair, a pot, or anything. Even a picture frame that’s crooked.
• Remove or move any object that causes any kind of discomfort in the house.
• Play music. Energy needs to be in a state of motion and sound vibrations help do that.
• De-clutter, de-clutter, declutter.
• Break monotony of colour, by placing plants in appropriate areas.
• Be creative because our brain gets easily tired. It needs to be fed with new things constantly. So, changing the position of furniture or the colour of some of them, is a good way to change energy patterns.
