JagmeetMadan: Black tea with lemon is a good option in terms of low Kacal and antioxidants but you can opt for many other low kcal beverages.


ami: is pinneple is good for wt. reduction?

JagmeetMadan: Pine apple has a high Glycemic response so restrict

 

Prem: Hello madam Prem from Chennai, I would like to know the nutrition tips to reduce the weight around waist, rest I am proper weight for my height.

JagmeetMadan: Please restrict your Carbs especially refined ones , distribute them through out the day, do not have big meals feed yourself every 3 hrs and invest in 1 hour of brisk walk every day, Gorge on veggies and limited fruit intake, add good quality proteins to each feeding

 

ami: for getting good skin which kind of food i have to take?

JagmeetMadan: Please increase intake of vegetables and proteins especially salads and fresh fruits, add milk, curds( low fat) in good amounts atleast 500ml per day , use laen chicken, fish to get good amount of proteins , Hydrate yourself well and keep your skin clean

 

raajen: hello dr jagmeet , what type off juice too be taken after jogging

JagmeetMadan: Its good to take fruit juices after a workout, goodoptions are orangejuice, pomegarnatejuice, guava nectar, tomato, carrot and orange juice

 

sharmila: Hello Madam, I am 27,vegeterian, 5 months pregnant, please advice on the eggs intake required on daily diet.

JagmeetMadan: You need to get good amount of good quality protein, you can consume egg 2 eggwhites and a yolk ateast 3-4 times a week. being vegetarian you can consume soya, otherpulses, and can even resort to good protein supplements

 

amit: hi madam, this is amit from dubai, i want to know that i am gaining weight in every 3 months 4 kgs. or more from last 2 years what's the reason, i am eating twice a day not more than that not even junk food. i am alone in dubai . my family is in inida. can u please tell me for this & advice for healthy breakfast too.

JagmeetMadan: Please get your complete medical check up done, you can even check your thyroid levels and other hormone profile to rule out any other cause. A haelthy break faast can be low fat milk( 200ml) with a whole grain based braekfast cereal(25gms) with 2 eggwhites and vegetable scrambled and a whole fuit

 

raajen: after workout in gym . what type off food too be taken and in what ratio too increase thw weight?

JagmeetMadan:  Immediate post work out juices with whey protein and follow it up wioth complex carbs, protein and fibre meal within 2 hrs of work out for better repletion

 

Deepa: hello madam..i work and i have a sedentary lifestyl and no time to exxercise or work out. is there any diet to control my weight and not turn into a fat potato

JagmeetMadan: Please control on your portions eaten at one time, say no to fried aaaaaaaand sweet preperations, decrease salt intake, incraese vegetables and fruits atleast 1 bowl of salad and two cups pf cooked vegetables and 2-3 whole fruits a day, Add 500ml of low fat milk or curd as well

 

gomes: how good is soya compared to eggs for proteins for a veg diet?

JagmeetMadan: eggwhite is definitely the first preference in terms of assimilation but soya is a good addon and substitute for vegetarians

 

Prem: What are the foods good for strengthening back muscles and spinal cord?

JagmeetMadan: the only food isVitamin Exercise - regular stretcing , yogaasanas and physical activity. gomes: i keep reading articles that say eat "1 portion of fruits" or "eat 3 portions of vegetables". i'd like to know what exactly is a portion and how is it measured?

JagmeetMadan:  one portion of fruit is one whole fruit medium size or chopped fruit - one medium size bowl (100-150gms) one vegetable potion is also one medium bowl of salad or 1 bowl of cooked vegeatble (100-150 gms)

 

ami: Please inform what is the calorie requirement for 85 year male his BMI is 31, sedentary life style, he wants to reduce.

JagmeetMadan: he should be consuming 1200-1400Kcal depending on his ability to consume

 

Deepa: i hav a sweet tooth and i have to eat whateva is made in the canteen.i have 1 fruit a day and salads too and milk but is a subsitute for sweet intake? and i have a fetish for cheese and mayonaise

JagmeetMadan: you can satisfy your sweet desire by taking one thin slice of dark chocholate 5-7 gms; a date, raisins, currants etc, you can opt for a low fat cheese and eggless mayonnaise but restrict on the quantity

 

raajen: dr jagmeet i use too take coconut water, but after taking it feel, as if, stomach is tighten , what to do?

JagmeetMadan: Please do not take large volumes of any fluid at one time you are supposed to sip it gradually, it will not lead to bloating

 

ami: What should be protein requirement for 85 year old if he is taking 1200-1400kcal, what are good sources of protein, he is a vegetarian,how many eggs can he have in a week.

JagmeetMadan: he should be taking atleast 0.8 to 1gm of protein per kg ideal body weight or usual body weight. if he is an eggitarian he can have 2 eggwhites every day

 

Samir: Hi I am having fatty liver since 2003, have tried homeopathy, ayurveda and allopathy, I think it is related to diet - my present diet includes Oats in morning, Dosa or 2-3 rotis with rice in afternoon and 4-5 rotis with vegetables and dals and lots of salad in the evening. I walk for 15 mins both morning and evening. What all can I do beyond this to make my liver normal

JagmeetMadan: Please cut down on the portions of rotis per meal , incraese your low fat milk and curds intake, increase vegetables and fruits , if you consume alcohol please stop that and incraese your exercise duration to atleast half an hour at one time. You need to maintain your idael body weight

 

raajen: dr jagmeet, from child hood i am heridited to asthma, as ,which comes after running two rounds off 700 metes ground which nequal to 1400 meter, it just block the heart and lung too inhale ? though while walking too 3-4 kilometr it does not come?

JagmeetMadan: please do not take intense exercises , walking briskly for alonger duration may be more beneficial

 

raajen: dr jagmeet , i am having piles , what type off food to be taken?

JagmeetMadan: please incraese your fibre intake and hydration, I need to ascertain the reason and extent of piles before specific recommendation, in general cut down on total intake of nonveg food

 

Prem: Most of the time I am facing indigestion, what’s the best foods/fruits to improve digestion.

JagmeetMadan: Please improve your gut flora by consuming curds (low fat) , probiotic curds or acidophilus milk can also be considered. In addition consume banana, guava nectar, pomegranate juice, apple stew, well cooked khichadi, cottage cheese, boiled egg

 

Samir: Dr thanks for the reply , one more query My Daughter has tendency to develop allergic bronchitis, what could be the best food for her to increase her immunity level

JagmeetMadan: Plaese incraese her protein intake- milk, curds,. paneer, egg, chicken, fish, add vegetables anf fruits You can give her Glutammune sachet (half ) 5gm in a beverage every day for atleast 15 days, add nuts and oilseeds like walnuts, almonds, til etc in her diet

 

ami: Does alovera juice aid is weight reduction please advice

JagmeetMadan: aloe vera is a detoxifying agent it alone cannot help you to reduce weight I have no scientific documented data in this regards

 

Prem: Madam thanks for all your replies, one final question..Any tips to control stomach upset without taking any medicines.
JagmeetMadan: Please improve your gut flora by using foods like curds (low fat) , probiotic curds or acidophilus milk can also be considered. In addition consume banana, guava nectar etc, ensure that you do not overeat in one meal , avoid raw foods from outside decrease your eating out especially fast foods and refined sugars and walk for one hour every day, do yoga asanas under good superviison
