Jay: I have a friend whose father used to get aggressive in his behavior and used to have frequent negative thoughts. Also, he seemed to be taking things negatively and used to be short tempered with everyone. Sometimes he had valid reasons to get disturbed but he tends to be over reacting. The nearest match I found for this condition is Bipolar Disorder. Now, his elder brother who has crossed 35 and seem to be developing the same symptoms. Suddenly his behavior has become aggressive and he tends to be very manipulative (usually on the negative side) on the communication received by him.
I hear even his grand father had similar temperament and his uncle (eldor brother of my father) also had same personality traits. He is not sure how to treat this with his brother and he is concerned that he may also develop same nature due to harmonial changes.
His father and brother are absolutely normal otherwise. They do their routine work, make money ..except that they tend to distrust people and become short tempered.
Can you pl. help to diagnose this or suggest any helpline/solution ? Thanks. Jay
DrAnjali: Bipolar disorder definitely could be one of the possibilities but the same mood needs to be persistent for atleast 2 weeks for it to be diagnosed as Bipolar Disorder. Also there could be a possibility of any other psychological disorder but we could only be able to assess that if we meet him or his family members and review his behaviour. we do treat such people so you could visit our website.
Frank: Hey Doc, i seem pretty tough to keep up with ma resolutions, can you help how to stick to those resolutions - if there is any simpler way to do so!!
DrAnjali: Reward yourself everytime you have kept up to a resolution, also set short term resolutions and acknowledge fall outs as a part of teh process. Don't let it demotivate you and continue to move on.... what is also very important is that you set realistic resolutions
kisha: hello mam i was thrown out by my husband in 10 days for not getting sufficient dowry..... there were serious dowry issues so the legal cases are going on... i feel a lot of emptyness as i dont hv a career though i am financially secure...
DrAnjali: You are very lucky that you got out of a bad relation..... However build up on your strengths and take up a field where you will enjoy yourself... In due course of time you will definitely find someone who will appreciate yyou for what you are rather than use you to increase his bank balance... this may be the best time to start fresh
insane: hi doctor i am suffering with negative thoughts and afraidness all the i want to come out of it please help me
DrAnjali: What kind of negative thoughts and fears do you have??? are they relation to your past?? If they are persistent and are hampering your day-today functioning you need to seek professional help. In general relaxation techniques, positive self-talk, a good support system to talk to or taking up a hobby you enjoy would be good options
rupal: hi doc, i really need to do something as i have someone close who needs to come off his negative thoughts and afraidness also, he refrains from crowd and aint in gud moods at times. its very similar to the article you had mentioned in the Ahmedabad mirror a week before. we really need you help.
DrAnjali: What he may be suffering from could be Social anxiety with may also making him feel disinterested in life as he may have lost all confidence too. This definitely requires psychological interventions i.e. therapy along with psychiatric interventions that may include medication
Frank: Doc, whenever i get upset i tend to go silent - my folks hate it when i'm silent as it is not my trait. But then i don wanna load my folks with what i'm going through at the moment and i prefer to solve it on ma own. The question here is how do i continue to be in same state (non-silent state) whenever there is a mood swing?
DrAnjali: All your family wnats to do is to be there for you. I am sure just as you may be taking on their problems it wouldn't be that bad if you tried to open up o them. Being silent could only make things worst as they would not feel wanted and may not understand what you are going through. This would make them worry more rather than you telling them about your problems. Also today you may be silent but if you keep too much to yourself, you may sure one day reach a break down point and letting things off your chest will always make you feel lighter and better
Raghunath: Hello doctor, to learn the techniques of N L P should i take trainer's guidance or can i read the book and learn. Please guide me
DrAnjali: Learning techniques by taking training would always be preferable as practical knowledge helps better for performnace. Side by side if you read and get the theoritical knowledge it would be an added advantage

DrAnjali: You need to check for a certain symtoms like, hyperactivity, impulsivity and duration of your attenion span to rule out what we call ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Also the content and quantity of the million thoughts needs to be reviewed with pschological help
homiyar: I have a newphew aged 15 who is over wiehgt 90 kgs also right from his child hood he is afarid of everything and scared , like darkness, hieght, will not sit is a lift , sacre of rian fall thundering lighting he used to wet his bed and sleep with some one uptil he was 12, he eats also large quantities of food and love good food. please suggest how can we approach his case and reduce his weight and reduce the various fears he has other wise he is a very sweet person
DrAnjali: Once again we need to find the cause of the fears. They could be fears of childhood or could be related to a stressful pregnancy the mother may ahve gone through. Same goes with the weight issue we need to see if his excessive eating is due to emotional eating or a genetic factor.... thus this would reqire professional help
Rajan: Hello doctor, This new year I have made a resolution to not watch T.V. at all.But it seems to be crumbling as even today i am unable to go away from T.V. when it is On. What can i do to make my resolution for the new year succeed?
DrAnjali: You need to keep a realistic goal.... wtaching no TV at all may be impossible and the more you restarin your self from something strictly teh more the mind tends to think about it. Also you need to check if watching televison is an Obsession or just habit?
Raghunath: Now I am self-employed. I need to strengthen my P M A. Bad memories keeps me from thinking on the present responsiblities ( till a couple of months back i was employed). Please guide me on this
DrAnjali: It must a be a difficult transition for you being emplyed to not having a job to being self-employed... there may be ot or worries, concerns, fears whcih need to be dealt with. Present responsibilities can only be faced positively once you have dealt with all your apst stress. Then you may see your current work as something to look forward and enjoy it.
