“Dancing is my ultimate workout. It’s enjoyable and I don’t detest it like going to the gym. When your body stretches during dancing, your blood circulation improves along with helping you lose weight. When I practise for my stage shows or TV shows and perform for an hour on the stage it’s the best exercise I can give myself. I run on the treadmill for an hour, thrice a week, but it doesn’t excite me. It’s like I have to do it types.

Our lifestyle is very relaxed. We are all too dependent on the house help unlike people abroad. Having spent a great many years in UK, I keep a part-time maid. She leaves after 2-3 hours on a Sunday and I do all the cleaning myself. We don’t like to walk even a short distance here. We like to step out of the car right at the entrance. But if you are abroad you have to walk from the parking lot to the mall and you stay active. These small things play a very important role in staying fit.

Diet - I don’t believe in dieting to starve myself. Having a Diet Coke is not my idea of losing weight either. I eat proper low fat food. I don’t like junk food. You will not find me munching wafers in between meals and no pizza or lasagne for me. I go easy on carbohydrates and have vitamins like cod liver oil capsules (good for the heart).

My day begins with oats and omelette for breakfast along with green tea. Lunch is dal chawal. If I am not in a mood for Indian, then its fish/chicken with sweet potato and vegetable cream salad. In the evening, I might have an apple or a banana. I like to have proteins for dinner. So it’s fish (salmon) or chicken (grilled/tandoori) and rice.

I love chicken curry but you must have it with butter naan for a complete Punjabi fare. But what’s the point of working out if you are eating butter naan hence I avoid curries for dinner. Dessert is either cheese cake or rasmalai. I cook and love ghar ka khaana. Avoid eating out. Say no to street food like gol gappas. Eat good food.

Looking Good - I am an ardent follower of an American skin care brand that my mum has been using in her salon in UK. As for my skin care regime, it’s simple—I use anti-bacterial face wash and moisturise my skin. A facial is a must once a month for glowing skin. I drink lots of water to keep my complexion clear.

Mind
Always look on the bright side of life. I try to stay happy even in bad times. I surround myself with positive people so that my energy doesn’t get drained. I no longer make an effort to keep everyone happy (because you can’t, I have realised). I now concentrate on my family and myself.

I love cooking; it keeps me entertained and at peace. I like trying out new restaurants once in a while. When I am stressed, you’ll find me at a salon getting a head massage or a body massage. Singing and dancing, are of course my comfort zone.

Spirit
I believe in God. I don’t meditate, and I am not very spiritual but I love and respect my religion and I respect others too. The first rule to spirituality is to understand. It qualifies you to be a good human being.

My philosophy is to be nice to everyone but if someone tries to abuse you and harm you then he must pay the price. I live by the dictate—don’t take crap from anyone.”
