Bust the myth: You cannot cure a hangover

Can a hangover be cured? Read on to know if any of the age old remedies for a hangover actually work

By Dr Miriam Stoppard

Aspirin, Vegemite, Bloody Mary, a fry-up and banana milkshake are just a few items on an endless list of things that supposedly can cure a hangover. However, no scientific evidence supports that any of these can actually cure or prevent you feeling bad after drinking.

A review of randomised trials evaluating medical interventions for preventing or treating hangovers found no effective techniques in either traditional or complementary medicine.

A hangover is simply caused by excess alcohol consumption. So, the most effective way to avoid one is to consume alcohol in moderation or not at all.
