First aid tips for feeling faint

If you are feeling faint, here is what you can do to prevent fainting

By Miriam Stoppard

  • Fainting, or when you lose consciousness for a short period of time, is due to a lack of blood flow to the brain.

  • If you’re feeling faint, try to lie down and raise your legs. Keep them elevated by using a prop, such as a chair, to rest them on. This should help get the blood back to your brain.

  • After you have rested for a while and feel well enough to get up, do so slowly. If you start to feel faint again, follow the same procedure.
