Mobile phone software is being developed to help Parkinson’s sufferers improve their speech. A technology specialist has been given a £35,000 grant by charity Parkinson’s UK. Dr Roger Eglin, based at Portsmouth University, said: “We’ve got a basic app but it needs to be further improved and tailored specifically for those with the disease.”
Dr Kieran Breen, of the charity, said: “Speech problems affect 70% of sufferers. This app used in everyday life has the exciting potential to help them.”
