Birth India was established in June 2007 to address the issue of the increasingly high numbers of women from all backgrounds in India being led into cesarean sections, unnecessary medical interventions and the harm this is causing to women, children and families.

Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI)
is a non-profit, non-governmental, voluntary organisation that aims at protection, promotion, and support of breastfeeding. BPNI was born on December 3, 1991. BPNI is a broad-based organisation with paediatricians, obstetricians, nurses, mother support group, media persons and housewives as members. BPNI headquarter believe in networking, social mobilisation and empowerment of state level organisations. BPNI has five regional centres across India.
