After successfully performing over 130 surgeries using the new 3D laparoscopy robotic machine, Dr Rakesh Sinha, managing director, Beams Hospital felt that it is the right time for other surgeons to use this technique as it gives the exact perception of depth. Over 150 surgeons from across the world were present for this 3D laparoscopy conference to understand the benefits and also learn the exact difference between 2D and 3D. The operations are conducted with a 3D laparoscopy camera unit called Einstein Vision. This German unit has robotic control technology.
Commenting on the 3D technology, Dr Sinha, says, “The precision, accuracy and depth perception is incredible. It seems like I was operating for the last 20 years with one eye closed.”
Benefits to patients
- Safety
- Less complications
- Cost effectiveness
- One day hospital stay
- Less time for surgery
Benefits to surgeons
- Depth Perception
- Precision
- Accuracy
- High resolution
- Incredible 3D image thus reducing surgical and anesthesia time
Technical Information
- The new 3D laparoscopy camera with robotic technology uses a 3D stereoscope – essentially dual cameras that send back two-live video feeds from different angles
- he two signals are polarised in opposite direction and the resulting image is then displayed as alternating rows of pixels on a high definition 3D television medical monitor
- The net effect of the display is like looking at the organ in real life
- This technology gives amazing resolution, surgical and depth perception
