Off late many companies have decided to generate medical awareness through social networking sites and the latest to join in is Sanofi Pasteur, which launched their facebook page Mothers Against Flu. Joining them in their endeavour was actress Raveena Tandon.

This social media initiative, hopes to unite mothers from different parts of the country with a single objective – to protect their children from the flu virus by creating awareness about the steps they can take to protect against and prevent flu.

Speaking about why they have chosen this platform Dr Joselito Sta ana, MD & MPH, executive director, Sanofi Pasteur India said, “Social media is rapidly growing in urban India and many young women, especially mothers are increasingly sharing the latest in their lives via social networking site. We are committed to protecting and improving human health worldwide, and on recognising this as a potential tool to spread awareness, this platform willl not only give information but also allow mothers to exchange their views on childcare.”

Along with sharing their views on childcare and motherhood, the mothers will be given an opportunity to participate in quizzes, out of which one Super Mom will get a chance to meet Raveena Tandon. In order to reach out to all the mothers out there, Raveena Tandon joined the initiative by officially becoming a member of the group at the launch. Speaking on the occasion she said, “After becoming a mother, your whole life revolves around your child. I especially feel responsible for taking care of my children’s health. Mothers Against Flu is an innovative campaign and am happy to help create awareness.”

Dr Vijay Yewale, consulting paediatrician says, “The Indian public may not feel a sense of urgency about flu but it can lead to severe complications. It is always wise to protect your family because we never know how serious or widespread influenza will be. Vaccination is the most important way of preventing flu and its one of the easiest things mothers can do to keep their children healthy.”
